Bernard Tomic Reveals He Never Really 'Loved Tennis'

Plenty of mixed reaction on social media last night after Channel 7's emotional interview with Aussie tennis star Bernard Tomic, where he admitted he only plays tennis for the money and has built his career on "50 per cent effort".

Speaking to Sunday Night, the troubled Gold Coaster was very unapologetic for his latest antics on and off the court, including his spat at Wimbeldon.

"I didn't come from a rich family, we had no money and you know I was 12-years-old, 13-years-old, nobody knows the sort of life I had. We came to Australia with basically nothing," he said.

Tomic also revealed he's been offered millions of dollars to play tennis for other countries and is quite amazed at how well he's done despite the little effort he sometimes puts in.

"So why do you choose to tank?" asked host Melissa Doyle.

"I don't tank. I just get disappointed in myself and very angry and I forget about what the score is, who I'm playing and I think about different things even though I'm on the tennis court," Tomic said.

"Throughout my career, I've given 100 per cent. I've given also 30 per cent. But if you balance it out, I think all my career's been around 50 per cent and I haven't really tried, and really achieved all this. So just amazing what I've done."

He also shelled out some advice to tennis fans who are considering buying tickets to one of his matches... "Don't".

"Don't come. Watch on TV. You don't have to pay anything."
