A Western Australian bloke has been hospitalised and will need surgery after being headbutted by a kangaroo he was attempting to hunt.
19-year-old Joshua Hayden was hunting kangaroos with his brother on Tuesday night when they spotted a group of three, ABC News reported.
One of them disappeared from view but reappeared when Hayden was trying to take a shot at the other two, knocking him unconscious and breaking his jaw.
"It actually collided with the side of the car and smashed the front window," he told ABC.
"Then it bounced back onto me and headbutted me straight in the jaw."
The force was so severe Hayden thought his brother had clocked him.
"I woke up and my brother was trying to tell me what happened," he said.
"I said 'No, you hit me' and he said 'No, the kangaroo did'."
Hayden now needs surgery, but has been told to wait 10 days for the significant swelling on his face to go down.
