Seven Queensland Police officers have scored what could be one of the most impressive junkets ever -

Basically, they've been employed to babysit the Commonwealth Games baton on its relay around the world.

The senior officers - reportedly earning about $140,000 a year - will take the trip under the job title "Asset Custodian Officer".

They'll be jetsetting for up to 53 days stopping in at the likes of the Seychelles, Bahamas, Jamaica, England, Wales, Canada and Vanuatu.

QPS is defending the decision, insisting it's the norm -

"A similar role was performed by officers from Victoria Police for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games,"

"The officers will make up one of five Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) positions for each deployment and will undertake one rotation each during the 288-day International Sector".
