RSCPA officers have rescued 24 cats who were locked inside a car in Southern Tasmania.
Police were called by concerned members of the public over the weekend after spotting the distressed cats, which have since been referred for proper care.
The animals were reportedly in need of food and vet care, with officers using the rescue mission as an opportunity to remind pet owners to adequately care for their animals.
"Never leave animals alone for extended periods of time without proper planning for their care and attention," RSPCA Tasmania inspector Ray Kroeze said.
He added the cats and kittens were generally emaciated.
RSPCA Tasmania urges anyone with concerns about the welfare of animals to make a confidential report to the Animal Cruelty Hotline on 1300 139 947 or via the RSPCA website.
