Townsville Airport has expanded its horizons, welcoming guests direct from Papua New Guinea for the first time today.
So who had the honour of being on the flight?
Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister Peter O'Neill was onboard the first commercial flight into Townsville today.
It's taken 12 months of planning to get Air New Guinea here but their flights to and from will be frequent.
The trips are scheduled to happen three times a week.
Townsville Enterprise CEO Patricia O'Callaghan says the new flights are a mutually beneficial relationship.
