Earlier this week the news broke that Cowboy player Antonio Winterstein would retire from NRL effective immediately due to ongoing injuries.

Fans were left shocked, but very thankful for his time in Cowboys colours.

Antonio's wife Brooke jumped onto Instagram to share her emotions around the announcement, and now Tones has done the same.

"My dream was to one day play in the NRL but never would have thought I'd be lucky enough to play in it for 10 years," he wrote.

"This game brought my entire family together through tough times and it also taught me life lessons i will carry on to the next chapter of my life."
