Pollies have a plan

Townsville Wallets Have Been Getting Pumped At The Fuel Pump

The Liberal National Party has a plan to help Townsville drivers who are being ripped off at the bowser, Shadow Transport Minister Steve Minnikin has said.

Mr Minnikin said that only two servos in the Townsville area were on Wednesday April 18 charging the ‘fair price’ recommended by the RACQ.

Twenty-five were selling above the price.

“Fuel companies are taking Queenslanders for a ride and Townsville is no exception,” Mr Minnikin said.

“The best way to end this is to boost competition between retailers and we could do this by introducing mandatory real-time fuel price monitoring.

“It’s what the NSW Government has done and prices there have fallen by $6 a tank.

“Real-time fuel price monitoring allows motorists to know exactly where and when to fill for the best price – but it needs the State Government to get on board to compel all retailers to provide live data.

“The RACQ and NRMA back real-time fuel price monitoring as a common-sense solution and the South Australia Government is looking at legislation as well.

“The same good thinking to save motorists money should happen in Queensland, but Annastacia Palaszczuk is refusing to take action to cut fuel prices.

“The LNP understands Queenslanders are struggling to keep their household budgets under control and high fuel prices are yet another hit to the hip pocket.

“The LNP has the solution – Labor just needs to get on and make it happen.”
