A partnership between Townsville City Council and Crime Stoppers hopes to rally the community to keep reporting information about suspicious or criminal activity.
Thanks to funding from Crime Stoppers and support from council, 15 ground decals have been made to promote the 1800 333 000 Crime Stoppers number.
The decals will be located on footpaths along The Strand, Riverway, Riverway Drive bike paths and Castle Hill.
Council’s Community Safety Advisory Committee member Cr Mark Molachino said the partnership between council and Crime Stoppers was a positive initiative.
“Through the Community Safety Advisory Committee council is working with community groups and organisations to improve safety for the community,” Cr Molachino said.
“We hope that these decals, placed in prominent positions throughout the city, will get people thinking about their role in reducing and reporting crime.”
Crime Stoppers Townsville chair, Natalie Marr said Crime Stoppers was a registered charity and community volunteer organisation.
“Townsville has an active Volunteer Area Committee with people who are dedicated to ensure Townsville remains a safe city,” Ms Marr said.
“We guarantee anonymity through the phone number 1800 333 000, the website www.crimestopperqld.com.au and the mobile App which is free to download.”
All decals will be in place by June 30.
